Prescriptions must be marked by pharmacists to show that they have been dispensed. The prescription reference number, the amount dispensed, the date of dispensing, and the pharmacy's name and address must all be included.
While the document is still in use, the original prescription must be retained.
For a set period of time, all dispensing, supply, and prescription records must be kept.
Wherever copies or scans of documents are kept, they must comply with legal standards and be appropriate for later reproduction.
For supply purposes, a hard copy original record must not be destroyed while it is still in use. When a hard copy is the only record available, it must not be destroyed before the required record retention period expires.
